Day 1

I’ve seen him around playing at the park. Glimpses of him kicking the ball keeps my heart beating. I stand behind the fence noticing his blonde hair bouncing with each movement. At least he is safe and looked after. If I approach, would he blame me for leaving?  A guilty sensation haunts me and I can’t understand why. Would anyone believe me if I told them I don’t remember leaving and the reason why? I could wait longer for my memory to come back but the more I linger on the subject the more I feel he is forgetting me. A sense of urgency rushes over me as a woman picks Noah up and I want to scream for someone to save him from her. Then the teacher helps him with his bag and it hits me that maybe my ex-husband has remarried. I stare numbly in their…

A wonderfully written story I must say, the development of characters and their descriptions were great and the emotion and feeling that went into it could be felt. The need for the mother wanting to be there feeling here job wasn’t complete was heart touching. I know emotion is one criteria in judging these stories and you’ve written it well. This story is a path to a prize, good luck lovely, glad to see you getting your talents out there.

    1. This means a lot coming from a talented writer like you. I’ve been looking forward to read your opinion.
When I first thought about this idea the emotion was so deep that I was terrified to write it. I was judging it before it was even on paper but then I told Manessah I was considering it and she encouraged me to go forward with it.
I really do hope emotion is a criteria in judging. I’m happy and grateful on both ways that it got this far. That’s the point of it all, writing in a way that terrifies me and then trying to get my writing out there. Thank you for reading & commenting 😀

Thank you and I’m happy to read your work, I love it. Talent has a magnetic attraction.
Never be afraid of writing emotion, it moves people and that’s what words are supposed to do, make an impact. And it’s okay to judge as long as it’s in a positive light. Emotion plays a big part in judging, I’ve entered contest before and been told that emotion was one criteria among many that’s used in the process. Others include plot, characters, readability and so forth. I don’t want to bore you😉. But I always quote, “If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough”! And that’s why we write, to get it out there. Good luck!😊

      2. You could never bore me. This is interesting 😀 So you’ve joined contests before!! Have you ever won anything?
Every writing teacher in Masterclass talks about all the elements you mentioned. That’s why I’m taking my time with the novel to make sure it all evens out. When I need a break I move to short stories. Thanks again for your wonderful words. Glad you love it.

It was printed for people to read. It met most criteria judging elements they were looking for, I learned after many attempts. Even my title had a lot to do with it because they said it said a lot about the story itself.
It’s good that you are doing a novel while switching back and forth to short stories and testing yourself, that’s a great method for writing, also a great way to conjure ideas for your main project. You’re on your way, keep at it lovely!!

    1. Wow 😀 Congrats! That’s great to know. Had no idea that the title mattered so much.
I take all ideas unrelated to the novel and turn them into short stories that way I don’t feel I have to quit my novel to start a bigger project.
Strange thing about the title of this story that three weeks after I wrote it and showed it to few people. Sia released a new song named “I’m Still Here”…LOL
I took it as a sign to submit it into this contest. I’ll definetely keep at it, thank you for sharing your experience.

Yes, in writing take into account everything matters because all eyes see and read everything when judging.
You have a good method about writing short stories and incorporating them into your novel, I like that. And that is strange about your title, that is a sign of things to come😉. I think your story is winner worthy, and your creativity is something to keep sharing.🌹

      2. The short stories and blogging are the random ideas I write out that don’t fit my novel.
Yes, the title was extremely weird. I thought it was a goodluck sign. Thank you for your advice. 😀
Whatever happens I’m super grateful to be a finalist and to get introduced to so many talents.

Random is good, remember that. And signs come from out of nowhere when you least expect it, it’s up to us as people to pick up on them and you may have.😉
And whatever happens, you are a winner regardless lovely because of the fact you made it this far, the experience, the lessons and you know what you have to do again to win again. Notice how I said win again😉. Go get em’
